I was going to close posting and then start amnesty in two weeks, but I can't really remember why, and also, the next couple of weeks are going to be hectic and it's more than likely that I'll forget.

Experimental change this year: prompts can be claimed once for Cam and once for Vala. You can claim one prompt for Cam and one for Vala. Prompts may only be claimed once per character, and you may only claim one prompt per person.

Summary: When war broke out, Cam thought nothing of joining the Canadian Corps and heading to France. Time and the reality of war is slowly wearing him down when he's called to another duty.
Warnings/spoilers/author's notes: Apologies for the late posting. The Great War is a fascinating period of time to study so it was natural I would opt to set my historical au during that. This is really about Cam and the reality of the war. Sadly time and well, real life kept me from detailing what exactly happens on the expedition he ends up be co-opted to join, but I imagine it has something to do with alien tech. And of course, we can't let the evil Germans get there first. I've included historical notes at the end to explain some of the background of the battles in which Cam participates; the information on that is cribbed from the numerous books I own on this war. The title is slang used during the war and refers to 'the beginning of just about any enterprise' -- a fitting title, in my mind. I do use some slang relevant to the period and will be happy to define anything that isn't self explanatory. Dedicated in part to the men who fought and died in this 'war to end all wars' and especially for those who participated in the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Arras.

I think I have moderated posting turned on, so if you want to post early, please do (I'll turn it off before the second, and reveal all fics). Regardless of whether you have finished or not, please fill out this poll (only I can see who says what). Obviously, if you've already dropped out, you don't need to complete it (unless you've undropped out). There will definitely be an amnesty date, but it is yet to be determined
